Admissions Requirements

Academic Recommendations

For future first-year students at UMN Morris, we recommend that your high school transcript include the following:

  • 4 years of English
  • 4 years of math, including 1 year each of elementary algebra, intermediate algebra, and geometry
  • 3 years of science with 1 year each of biological and physical science
  • 3 years of social studies, including United States history*
  • 2 years of a single second language*
     

*Applicants missing this requirement will not be denied admission if they are otherwise admissible.

We also welcome college and advanced placement credits.

How we evaluate applications

We take into account several factors when we evaluate your application, but most of all, we want to get to know you as an applicant. That’s why we encourage you to visit and meet with an admissions counselor.

Primary Review Factors

  • Successful school performance, including high school or college coursework, grades received, high school rank percentile (if calculated), and grade point average
  • Successful completion of a college preparatory curriculum
  • Strength of the curriculum through high school graduation, including courses that exceed the core subject requirements and any advanced courses (e.g., honors, AP, IB, college level)

Secondary Review Factors

  • Letters of recommendation
  • Personal interview
  • Evidence of exceptional achievement, aptitude, or personal accomplishment not reflected in the academic record or standardized test scores
  • Participation in extracurricular college preparatory programs (e.g., MEP, PSEO, Talent Search, Admission Possible, Upward Bound)
  • Evidence of exceptional talent or ability in artistic, scholarly, leadership, or athletic performance
  • Evidence that enrollment would enhance the cultural, gender, age, economic, racial, or geographic diversity of the student body
  • Evidence of exceptional motivation, maturity, or responsibility
  • Outstanding high school or community involvement
  • Work experience, paid or unpaid
  • Size of graduating class
  • Evidence of having overcome social, economic, or physical barriers to educational achievement
  • Extenuating circumstances

You will receive an admission decision within two weeks. Note: the decision will be sent to the email address you listed in your application.

After you apply, you'll:

  • Submit your high school or secondary school transcript. You can also upload an unofficial transcript through your application portal or email it to [email protected]
  • Send any additional information (optional). Feel free to include extra materials like written statements, letters of recommendation, resumes, and portfolios that you feel would help us get to know you better. We encourage written statements if there are any extenuating circumstances we should take into account when reviewing your application.
  • Submit the FAFSA. Use our federal school code 002389. Explore financial aid and scholarships. The 2024–25 FAFSA will be available in December 2023.
  • Return the confirmation card included in your admission packet with a $175 nonrefundable confirmation fee or pay the confirmation fee online with a credit card.
