Area of Concentration Procedures
- The student should first consult with their adviser about personal curriculum objectives. In consultation with the adviser and perhaps other faculty, the student should develop a plan of courses that constitute an Area of Concentration (major or minor).
- The student should then prepare a summary of their proposed curriculum plan on the Area of Concentration (major or minor) form. Only the approved form, revised September 2019, will be accepted; a link to the forms is on the webpage. In addition to the form, a copy of a comparable program (major for Area of Concentration Major, or minor for Area of Concentration Minor) from another institution is required.
- The student should submit this curriculum plan to their adviser and additional faculty member(s) as necessary for approval. The student is then responsible for forwarding the paperwork to the appropriate Division Chair for their approval. After receiving the Division Chair’s approval, the student is responsible for forwarding the signed paperwork along with a copy of a comparable program (major for AoC Major, or minor for AoC Minor) from another institution to Laura Burks in the Dean’s Office.
- After approval from the Dean (which can take up to one week), Laura Burks will send email notification of the approval to the student, adviser, other identified faculty, and the Registrar (so the paperwork can be processed).
- Any changes to an approved curriculum program plan should be submitted on the Area of Concentration form, clearly marked REVISION, complete with necessary signature approvals, and forwarded to Laura Burks in the Dean’s Office.
