Retention and Graduation Rates

75% of the first-time, full-time undergraduate students who enrolled in the fall of 2023 returned to the University of Minnesota in the fall of 2024.The 4-year graduation rate for full-time students entering in fall 2020 and graduating from the University of Minnesota was 44%. The 6-year graduation rate for full-time students entering in fall 2018 was 66%.

The Student Achievement Measure (SAM) is an alternative to the federal graduation rate, which is limited to tracking the completion of first-time, full-time students at one institution. SAM tracks student movement across postsecondary institutions to provide a more complete picture of undergraduate student progress and completion within the higher education system.
