Roland Guyotte, professor of history at UMN Morris, and his wife, Barbara Posadas, a professor of history emerita at Northern Illinois University, have devoted their careers to teaching and mentoring college students.
Arriving at UMN Morris in 1969, Guyotte intended to stay just one year, but developed a deep connection to the campus and would ultimately teach at UMN Morris for 56 years. Posadas made her first visit to UMN Morris in 1973 and has spent as much time as possible in Morris since then, even teaching at the university for two terms.
To continue serving students beyond their time teaching and understanding the financial challenges that many students and their families face, the couple has chosen to help future students through scholarships set up at the academic institutions that have played an important role in their lives.
“We hope that giving to UMM celebrates our ties to the school in a lasting and meaningful way,“ says Posadas.
The Roland L. Guyotte and Barbara M. Posadas Endowed History Scholarship at UMN Morris is intended for students who are pursuing an undergraduate degree in history. Guyotte and Posadas, who benefited from scholarship assistance when she was a student, both view scholarships as a vital resource for students in their ability to go to college and pursue a degree.
“We hope that our scholarships, along with others, will enable UMM to continue enrolling bright and motivated students, thereby enriching not only their lives but also the UMM community as a whole.”
