The Morris Meiningens Performing Arts Collective student organization, in association with the theatre discipline at the University of Minnesota Morris, announces its winter production, Aftermath, a moving new play by Midwest playwright and current Augustana University senior Mikennah Oleson.
In this deeply personal and emotionally resonant story, five individuals confront their final hour on Earth as they search for love, reconciliation, and meaning before time slips away. This year marks the directorial debut of theatre arts major Parker Stach ‘27, Hoffman. “The premise of this play is sad, the end of the world is terrifying in a way,” explains Stach, “however, beneath its initial premise this play is about the importance of human love and connection, even in the most difficult and frightening times. In many ways, this is an amazing Valentine’s Day piece, especially in the current state of our world.”
Alongside Stach is an amazing and hard-working production team with Chloe Appert ‘28 as stage manager; Asa Docktor ‘28, Grand Rapids, as assistant stage manager; lighting design by Mikayli Marciulionis ‘26, Esko; set design by Caspian Brack ‘28, Waite Park; and property design by Al Lighthizer ‘26, Albert Lea.
The talented five-person cast includes Eva Warrington ‘29, Nevis, and Moon Johnston ‘28, Pipestone, as lovers Daphne and Henry respectively; Al Lighthizer as failing comedian Nick; Kiera Lafferty ‘28 as Daphne’s pessimistic sister, Jackie; and Mackenzie Applegate ‘28, St. Stephen, as Henry’s quiet father, Frank. Ambrose Baier ‘28, Bloomington, Caspian Brack, and Maggie Schultz ‘29 all serve as understudies for the production.
Performances run Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 12–14, at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee on Feb. 14 at 2 p.m. in the George C. Fosgate Black Box Theatre, Humanities Fine Arts building.
