(July 13, 2023) Based on scoring by the World Food Prize Foundation (WFPF) board of reviewers and Morris Challenge Youth Institute roundtable experts, four area high school students have been selected to attend the 2023 World Food Prize Foundation Global Youth Institute in Des Moines, Iowa.

The students are:

  • Whitney Blume - West Central Area High School
  • Brianna deNeui - Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley High School
  • Jaden Ebacher - Minnewaska Area High School
  • Hope Williams - Kalon Prep Academy

To qualify to attend the WFPF Global Youth Institute, the students had to research a global issue and write a paper under the supervision of a teacher or mentor. These four students were selected from among their peers who attended the 2023 Morris Challenge Youth Institute, hosted on May 22, 2023 by the University of Minnesota Morris.

Each year, 150 exceptional high school students from around the world are selected to participate in the Global Youth Institute, a prestigious youth education program hosted by the World Food Prize Foundation. Selected students and their teachers/mentors travel to Des Moines, Iowa, in mid-October to attend this three-day event during which they interact with Nobel and World Food Prize Laureates and discuss pressing food security and agricultural issues with international experts.

During the week students will present their research, collaborate with each other on a group project, participate in the Borlaug Dialogue, attend content sessions focused on the subthemes, and engage with anti-hunger, agriculture, and sustainability leaders.
