Academic Recommendations

For future first-year students at UMN Morris, we recommend that your high school transcript include the following:

  • 4 years of English
  • 4 years of math, including 1 year each of elementary algebra, intermediate algebra, and geometry
  • 3 years of science with 1 year each of biological and physical science
  • 3 years of social studies, including United States history*
  • 2 years of a single second language*

*Applicants missing this requirement will not be denied admission if they are otherwise admissible.

We take into account several factors when we evaluate your application, but most of all, we want to get to know you as an applicant. That’s why we encourage you to visit and meet with an admissions counselor.

UMN Morris happily accepts or grants credit for college coursework, Advanced Placement (AP) exams, the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) exams, and International Baccalaureate (IB) exams, as well as special examinations that are arranged individually.

The estimated cost of attendance (COA) is based on full-time enrollment for the academic year (fall and spring terms). Costs will vary according to your residency and enrollment status. Your actual costs will depend on personal lifestyle choices, as well as your academic program and coursework.

Next Steps

  1. Visit Us. Experience the sights and sounds of campus in person. Choose from multiple visit options
  2. Apply online using the UMN Morris application or the Common App. (Be sure to include a $30 non-refundable application fee.) For tips on how to make the most of your application, keep reading about how we evaluate applications.
  3. Submit your high school or secondary school transcript. You can also upload an unofficial transcript through your application portal or email it to admissions@morris.umn.edu. Also, find out how we transfer credits.
  4. Send any additional information (optional). Feel free to include extra materials like written statements, letters of recommendation, resumes, and portfolios that you feel would help us get to know you better. We encourage written statements if there are any extenuating circumstances we should take into account when reviewing your application.
  5. Receive your admission decision in approximately two weeks. Note that this will be sent to the email address you listed on your application. 
  6. Submit the FAFSA. Use our federal school code 002389. Explore financial aid and scholarships.
  7. Save your place! So we don't give your spot away, return the confirmation card included in your admission packet with a $175 nonrefundable confirmation fee or pay the confirmation fee online with a credit card. Once we receive your confirmation, you will be able to request housing, schedule a registration session, and complete the necessary steps to become a UMN Morris student.
