Midwest Philosophy Colloquium to focus on social epistemology

The philosophy discipline invites the Morris community to the 47th Annual Midwest Philosophy Colloquium. This year’s colloquium will explore the topic of "Toxic Moralizing" with faculty from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio. 

The featured speakers are Brandon Warmke, associate professor of philosophy, and Hrishikesh Joshi, assistant professor of philosophy.

Warmke will give the first lecture for this year’s Colloquium, "Why You Shouldn't Be a Moralizer," on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at 7 p.m. in Imholte Hall 109. Warmke works on various moral, social, and political topics in both philosophy and psychology, including moral responsibility, forgiveness, free expression, and public discourse.

The second lecture, “The Skeptical Upshot of Social Cognition," will be given by Joshi on Friday, April 14, at 4 p.m. in Imholte Hall 109. Joshi works on issues at the intersection of philosophy, politics, and economics (PPE). He is interested in distributive justice, public choice theory, and the moral and epistemic upshots of partisanship and political polarization.
