The University of Minnesota Morris has named Joey Iverson, assistant professor of mathematics at Iowa State University, the 2022 Latterell Visiting Alumnus. In addition to meetings with students and faculty, Iverson will deliver the 2022 Latterell Visiting Alumnus Lecture on Monday, Nov, 21, at 7 p.m. in the Science Auditorium. This public lecture is titled, “Academia is a Small Town: A Look Back at how my Experiences at Morris Prepared me for a Successful Career in Academics.”
About Iverson
Iverson graduated in 2007 from UMN Morris with a major in Mathematics. He went on to earn a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Oregon, and then he held postdocs at the Air Force Institute of Technology and the University of Maryland, College Park. Now he teaches undergraduate and graduate classes at ISU, and he is very active in research, specializing in harmonic analysis and its interactions with representation theory and algebraic combinatorics. He lives in Ames, Iowa, with his wife Christina ’09, who is a crossword editor for the New York Times, and their two young children.
About the Latterell Memorial Visiting Alumnus Program
Privately funded with gifts from alumni, faculty, staff, and Latterell friends and family, the Joseph J. Latterell Memorial Visiting Alumnus Program provides annual grants to disciplines within the Division of Science and Mathematics to invite alumni to campus to serve as resource persons for students and faculty. Dr. Joseph J. Latterell joined the UMN Morris faculty in September of 1967 and was among the first faculty members to involve undergraduates in research projects.
