Colter Combellick, Mnicoujou - Lakota, and member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, comes from the Tin Cup, Spotted Bear, and Yellow Hawk families. Colter (Colt) has provided culturally responsive mental health care for students at UMN Morris since 2016. As a social worker and a clinical therapist, Colt applies experience working with clients in various settings, including inpatient, outpatient, group, and family therapy. Colt believes each client is sacred and understands that it is imperative to personalize services for each individual to ensure their success. Colt uses a multi-faceted approach to therapy, including the Circle of Courage, cognitive-behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, and solution-focused therapy. Working with the Native American Student Success program, Colt facilitates traditional indigenous teachings providing a model of care that creates transformative change for generations to come.
