Academic Planning: Native American and Indigenous Studies Major

The top 4 things to consider when planning a major in native american and indigenous studies

  1. Students should take Introduction to Native American and Indigenous Studies (NAIS 1101) in the first year if possible.
  2. American Indian Song and Dance (NAIS 1801; interdisciplinary course) can also be used for elective credit in the major.
  3. Eight credits of Indigenous Language are required for the major and will also satisfy the foreign language (FL) General Education requirement. Students should refer to the class schedule to view which language is offered in any given year.
  4. Students should consult their major adviser to develop a plan for selecting appropriate elective courses to meet their goals and interests.
