Our Approach

Our commitment to sustainability is embedded into the policies and the practice of what we do on campus: our academics, our research, and the way we manage our initiatives at the university. Sustainability is woven into the fabric of our work at Morris.

Creating a sustainable society is a challenge that has to be addressed from many perspectives. There is no silver bullet, so we take a “silver buckshot” approach, with a wide variety of programs, methods, investments, infrastructure projects, and more, to make our sustainability efforts as comprehensive and effective as possible.

We also depend on the initiative and hard work of those in the Morris community—students, faculty, staff, alumni, and stakeholders—to bring these efforts to fruition. Internally, a university-wide committee is tasked with identifying, tracking, and communicating our progress in sustainability, as well as finding new opportunities and ways to share what we have learned from other institutions and partners.
