The University of Minnesota Morris competitive ethics team has earned a spot in the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl (APPE IEB) National Competition.

The six-member UMN Morris team competed at the Northeast Regional Ethics Bowl, hosted by Northeastern University in Boston, MA, on Nov. 23. The team placed third out of 18 following three preliminary rounds addressing six cases created to explore a variety of topics within practical and professional ethics.

Because this regional tournament received three bids for Nationals, the top two teams each automatically received a bid for Nationals. A final round between the third and fourth ranked teams was held to determine the final bid for Nationals.

The UMN Morris team defeated teams from Sacred Heart University, Tufts University, and University of Connecticut in the first three rounds and then defeated Tufts University again to secure the national bid.

The UMN Morris team members are Jayson Weber ‘25, Morris; Will Marsan ’25, Eden Prairie; Muthu Meenakshisundaram ‘25, Eden Prairie; Andrew Hedquist ‘26, Stillwater; Ewan McKenzie ‘26, Stillwater; and Connor Cordell ‘27, Owatonna. Dan Demetriou, professor of philosophy, is the coach.

The annual APPE IEB National Competition will be held in Norfolk, VA on February 22-23.
