Founders Scholars explore questions and ideas that increase knowledge of the campus mission

Associate Professor of music and music discipline coordinator Ann DuHamel has been named the 13th UMN Morris Founders Scholar of the Liberal Arts. Founders Scholars explore questions and ideas that increase knowledge of the campus mission.

DuHamel's proposal, "Epics, Exile, Revolution, and Resistance: Artistic Citizenship and Artivism as Essential to the Liberal Arts," explores the powerful intersection of musical performance, social commentary, and liberal arts education at a critical moment in our history.

The project will focus on presenting two piano programs featuring works by Frederic Chopin and Frederic Rzewski that speak to themes of exile, revolution, and resistance. Through this unique lecture and recital series, DuHamel will investigate how musical performance can serve as artivism—art that embodies the artist's commitment to activism and social justice awareness.

Founders Scholars and Projects

Since its establishment in 1960, UMN Morris has fostered a spirit of self discovery and thoughtful inquiry. Today that spirit is celebrated through the campus’s Founders’ Fund, which supports research that increases knowledge of the campus mission.
