2025 UMN Morris Student Leader Awards Announced

University of Minnesota Morris student leaders were honored at the annual Student Leadership Awards on Wednesday, April 30. These outstanding students demonstrate what’s best about the UMN Morris experience.

Mathew Ian Helgesen Memorial Award Established by Tim and Jean Helgesen in memory of their son, Matthew ’06, who was a founding member of the Bad Movie Club, this award is given to the Captain of the Bad Movie Club. The award honors the values of UMN Morris and reflects student initiative and creativity in leadership.

John Brian Becker Award Established by friends of the late John Becker ’97, this award honors and thanks a student identified as being a progressive thinking individual whose activism has made an impact on campus or beyond by raising public awareness and promoting social change. John majored in English and theatre arts while at UMM and was actively involved in the Student DFL, KUMM and the Women’s Resource Center.

Outstanding Student Organization Award Student organizations play a substantial role in furthering UMN Morris’s educational goals outside the classroom. This award recognizes the work not of any individual leader but that of an entire organization. 

The award recognizes a recognized, registered student organization with at least 5 active members that has had a significant impact upon and enhancement of the UMN Morris community

  • Campus Activities Council 

     

Outstanding Faculty or Staff Support of Student Leadership This award recognizes faculty and staff who support student leaders and student-initiated/student-directed activities – including

student organizations, committees, and special activities, events, and programs supported by Student Engagement.

Stephen Graves Granger Award for Outstanding Student Leadership Named for UMN Morris’s first Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, this award recognizes student achievements in student-initiated/student-directed activities. These include the student organizations, committees, and special activities whose events or programs are coordinated with or administered by Student Engagement & Events.
