What Happens in a First Session?
When you make an appointment at Student Counseling they will ask you to fill out paperwork before seeing a counselor. This paperwork needs to be filled out each academic year. We ask that you allow yourself 15 minutes before your initial/first session to fill out the paperwork, come into the office when you have 15 minutes during open office hours (8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., 1:00-4:30 p.m.), or print and fill out the paperwork in advance. Appointments will be made with the first available intake counselor. In the initial/first session, the intake counselor will ask you a variety of questions about you, your life and what is bothering you. The discussion will help the intake counselor understand you and your concerns and make an initial assessment of your situation. The need for future sessions will be discussed in the initial/first session.

You are free to access Someplace Safe on your own, or Student Counseling staff can assist you in connecting with them and supporting that process to ensure you are able to safely get your support and advocacy needs met.
