Thanks to funding from the SAMHSA Garret Lee Smith Suicide Prevention Grant, we have contracted with West Central Consulting Services to offer free drug and alcohol assessments to UMN Morris students. Christine Banta, LADC is a licensed alcohol and drug counselor in the state of Minnseota and will be providing the assessments.
Drug and Alcohol assessments are first screened and referred through Student Counseling. If you are already seeing a counselor, your counselor can refer you to this service. If you are not already seeing a cousnelor, please contact the office at 320-589-6060 and someone can assist you.
Drug and alcohol assessments can be useful in understanding yoru level of need and problem. "Understanding the extent and nature of a substance use disorder and its interaction with other life areas is essential for careful diagnosis, appropriate case management, and successful treatment. This understanding begins during the screening and assessment process, which helps match the client with appropriate treatment services." (SAMHSA: The Difference Between Screening and Assessment).
