Academic Planning: Economics

The top 5 things to consider when planning a major in economics

  1. Students should take Principles of Economics (ECON 1101) and Intro to Statistics (STAT 1601) in their first year.
  2. Calculus I (MATH 1101) is required and should be taken in year one, if possible. If the student tests into a lower level of Math, they should start with Math in the first semester.
  3. The Economics major pairs well with several other majors and minors on campus, including (but not limited to): History, Psychology, Business and Management, Math, Philosophy, Modern Languages, Environmental Studies, and Political Science.
  4. A semester or more of study abroad is strongly encouraged.
  5. Students should work closely with their adviser to choose complementary coursework from across the campus.
