Academic Planning: Business and Management

The top 5 things to consider when planning a major in business & management

  1. The Business and Management major is deeply interdisciplinary at UMN Morris. Required classes are drawn from Management, Economics, Communications Media and Rhetoric, Statistics, Math or Computer Science, Philosophy, and Psychology.
  2. Students should take Principles of Economics (ECON 1101), Public Speaking (CMR 1042), and Intro to Statistics (STAT 1601) in the first year.
  3. Students should take Principles of Accounting 1 (MGMT 2101) in the fall semester of their second year. This is a prerequisite for many of the upper division electives in MGMT.
  4. Students should consult their major adviser to develop a plan for selecting appropriate elective courses to meet their goals and interests.
  5. With a little advanced planning, a second complementary major in Economics (ECON) is a popular and strategic choice for many students, particularly those with some math aptitude.
